V-22 Osprey Italeri 1/48 Model Build - Nav lights, motors, rotor tip lighting - Completed

Finished videos and photos of my Osprey build. Added navigation and strobe lighting, motors, mini MP3 audio, and rotor tip lighting. Lighting installation was pretty straight forward. Motor installation was difficult with three subsequent motor failures, which required disassembly, repair and reassembly. Not pretty. Basic Circuit for Model Aircraft Navigation and Strobe Lighting - Progress

I wanted to make a simple Navigation / anti collision Strobe lighting circuit for my model aircraft. So here it is, very basic, and very cheap. This project came in at AU$12 or US$7 equivalent. It runs off 12.5vdc (Lithium battery). The strobe circuit requires 12vdc for the strobe ( 12 to 16vdc is fine). Strobe Frequency is adjustable via the 10k potentiometer. The voltage is then reduced to 5v...

    I assembled many of those G-1200 gyros and accelerometers at Litton many years ago. When a US military tour came through, with the president and upper management of Litton, I pulled some gyros out of a heat treating oven. One of the wiring harnesses got caught, and the gyro fell. I put my foot out to break the fall, but instead punted it across the room and bounced it off the window. You could see all of the heads following it as it flew through air. I got a pretty good reprimand afterwards. Good times !

      Those days are long gone I’m afraid. I last worked in the workshop some 20 years ago. But the OEMs still repair gyros and still dispose of ones that are BER. I would look into Litton Systems Canada which is the company that overhaul mechanical gyroscopes. Alternative is to find one on eBay, they occasionally turn up.

      I did not use a base colour. I did prepurchase quite a few tamiya as-20 off white rattle cans but never used them. I went with the black oil paint rubbing option. It produces a slightly darker finish but you have the option of making it lighter with thinners. I did make a RUclips video of how to use the oil paint on the Falcon. So to sum up. Oil paint rubbed back, then tamiya weathering kits to create all the streaking. Airbrush was used only on the damage areas.

    • @Bespoke_ModelMaker
      @Bespoke_ModelMaker 6 месяцев назад

      To begin with i collected lancaster sounds from various youtube videos. I then combined the audio parts i wanted into one 2 minute MP3 file. You then load that file onto a micro sd card and insert that into a mini mp3 audio playback card. These can be purchased for a couple of bucks off ebay. Power the board with 4 volts and connect up a speaker. When power is initiated the audio file will play. I’m doing the same setup for an Osprey i’m currently building. The sound module has a part number MP3-TF-16P

    Lovely model well made 😉👏👏👏👍 But, i find just one fault ( only my own personal opinion ) That the anti collision lights (flashers) are a bit too slow in there timing. I'd rather they were a bit quicker ( about 20 to 30%% quicker) but, that's my own personal opinion But, it's really nice otherwise. & no sign of a floodlight ( night sun) Not that important just a bit of a mind boggler for me only anyway. Well made in quality 👏👍😉 I'm not trying to criticize it just my own personal opinion of which i am sure everyone is entitled to. LOVELY ALL THE SAME. 😉

    • @Bespoke_ModelMaker
      @Bespoke_ModelMaker 6 месяцев назад

      Thanks for commenting. The main aim for me with this idea was just trying to design and build my own lighting circuitry. In answer to your question, I did place a potentiometer on the circuit that would change the rate (frequency) of flashing. But my problem was that all this is permanently installed within the helicopter now… so am unable to change the rate. I have started a new model (Osprey) yesterday and aim to make the blinking rate the same as the real thing, plus I also want to add spinning rotors. With regard to the floodlight on the Apache, there was no option to display it down so kept it stored and off, whereas with the Osprey, I have wired that in so that it will be operational. In the end it’s all just a bit of fun to try and make each model better. The other goal was to try and make the lighting for less than what I can buy a kit online for which is generally around $150. The Apache lighting cost me around $15 all up. :-)

      Sadly no. I made the two minute audio file from a combination of different helicopter sounds and blended in the hope that I could add a computer and also motors to the rotors to have a fully operational chopper. But the spindles on the micro motors were not strong enough to handle the large, heavy main rotor. So in the end just went with lighting.

    This is an amazing converstion and would make a great public diorama, especially for children of all ages who might like to press the start button repeatedly. By the way the Albion AM463 refueller looks good but sorry to say was not used with the Lancaster as its pipework and hoses were designed to refuel three Hawker Hart type biplanes. Look for an AEC 854/0854 6x6 Refueler in the same scale, if they do one as that had the fuel capacity of 2,500 Gallons suitable for a Lanc on a long trip.

Its a ridiculous transaction in real life promoting more tension to the conflict because of the conversion time, pilots logistics etc. If you want to build the kit use one currently available. Hobby Boss has got a huge list of models and quality to offer over " phantom" kits. Hobby stores will be sending their orders back for meltdowns.
